Meet Dr. Amanda Townsend PT, DPT, OCS, WCS
Unbound Pelvis exists to rehumanize pelvic healthcare by restoring trust between women & their bodies through seasons of change.
I built Unbound Pelvis not just as a physical therapy practice, but as a reclamation. A breaking open of what I had to survive, & what I now refuse to perpetuate. After two pregnancies, two cesareans, & years of pelvic pain, I didn’t just study pelvic health - I lived it.
I navigated a system that dismissed my experience, compartmentalized my care, & handed me rehab protocols that didn’t make space for my grief, trauma, or truth. As a dual board-certified physical therapist in Orthopedics and Women’s Health, I know how to treat the body. But as a mother of two neurodivergent children & someone who discovered my own neurodivergence through them, I had to learn how to treat the nervous system. To understand sensory processing, energetic survival patterns & how deeply the body stores what it couldn’t express.
That journey cracked open my trauma. And in doing so, revealed me.
Unbound Pelvis is built on everything I’ve learned in both the exam room & the living room. It’s rooted in body-truth, nervous system safety, birth stories, rage, repair, grief, & reconnection.
That lived experience is paired with advanced clinical training & a systems-based approach to treating complex pelvic & orthopedic conditions.
At Unbound Pelvis, my work blends clinically rigorous pelvic & orthopedic physical therapy with nervous-system-informed care. I emphasize thorough evaluation, pattern recognition, & collaborative treatment planning to address symptoms at the root & support lasting resolution. My approach is paced, relational, & grounded in respect for each person’s lived experience & current season of life.
In addition to clinical practice, I have experience in mentorship & education. I’ve served as teaching assistant in an orthopedic residency program, mentored clinicians across multiple clinics, & taught coursework in anatomy, lumbar spine evaluation, pelvic girdle function, & movement systems. I also support other women in healthcare through consulting & mentorship as they build sustainable, values-aligned practices.
I founded Unbound Pelvis to offer pelvic floor care that reflects both clinical excellence & humanity. Care that is thoughtful, integrative, & designed to support meaningful, durable change.
I’m a dual board-certified clinical specialist in Orthopedic & Women’s Health Physical Therapy with over 15 years of experience in outpatient orthopedics & pelvic health. My clinical work integrates pelvic floor & orthopedic physical therapy across the lifespan, with particular focus on complex, persistent symptoms that haven’t resolved through conventional care.
My background spans sports medicine, orthopedic rehabilitation, obstetrics, & pelvic health. I completed an orthopedic physical therapy residency & have spent much of my career working in outpatient settings, private practice, & leadership roles, including clinic director, regional director, residency mentor, & co-business owner. Across these roles, I’ve developed a systems-based approach to care that considers how movement, load, nervous system regulation, & life context interact to influence pain & function.
Over the last decade, my clinical focus has increasingly centered on women navigating pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, pregnancy & postpartum recovery, surgical recovery, & midlife transitions. I work with individuals whose symptoms are often labeled as “normal,” unclear, or difficult to resolve & who are seeking care that looks beyond isolated body parts or protocols.
